For thousands of years dogs have played a crucial role in hunting communities in East Greenland and they still play an important part for local hunters today.

We want to introduce you to our new adventurous dogsledding trip in the remote Ammassalik island in East Greenland. This trip is a unique opportunity to explore this magnificent, raw and icy wilderness in the most authentic way possible.

After a visit to the mesmerizing Blue Lagoon and one night in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, we take you to Tasiilaq in East Greenland. This dog sledding trip will take you on an amazing journey through the magnificent Ammassalik island. We will explore the island with Inuit mushers and their dogs, driving up and down glaciers and mountains and riding on the icy fjords whilst enjoying the breathtakingly beautiful icy scenery. After the dogledding adventure you will have one day at leisure in the capital of Iceland to explore the city or visit some of the most famous sites in Iceland, before heading back home.

Day 1 : Kulusuk - Tasiilaq
A helicopter will take you on a scenic ride from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq. In Tasiilaq we will welcome you and take you to your accommodation. You will spend the first night in a well-appointed house in town. After you have settled in, we will go together shopping for food for the trip and then go back to the accommodation to pack all the food and equipment needed for the big adventure. In the evening you will enjoy dinner with the rest of the group. If the night is clear you are highly likely to see the breathtaking northern lights.

Day 2: Tasiilaq - The Sermilik Coast - Qaattu
After breakfast the real adventure begins! You meet the dogs, hop on the sledge and ride off into the wild. With two persons per sledge and a musher you head north. The luggage will be transported by snowmobile to your next accommodation.  After a two hour ride through the beautiful landscape you take the first break at a beautiful spot in the middle of the Ammassalik island. There you will have lunch and a hot drink.  An hour later you will go up a 500 m high mountain just to go down on the other side where you have a breathtaking view of the Sermilik fjord with all its amazing icebergs. The Qaattu Hut will be your home for the following two nights.

Day 3:  The Sermilik Coast
Today will be devoted to the exploration of the surrounding area and mountains. The group will be split in two. One group goes snowshoeing in the mountains where you have a fantastic view over the stunning icefjord. The other group will go with a local hunter to the ice edge and look for seal. After lunch the first group goes with the hunter and the second group goes snowshoeing.  The night will be  spent in the Qaattu Hut. If the night is clear you are highly likely to see the breathtaking northern lights.

Day 4:  The Sermilik Coast - Tiniteqilaaq
Depending on the conditions of the ice in the Sermilik fjord, the guide will choose one of three possible routs, which are all equally stunning.  After a 5 hour beautiful dogsledding ride you arrive in Tiniteqilaaq, a small remote settlement of 120 people.  You will have the afternoon at leisure and can explore this traditional settlement and learn about the way of life in this remote part of the world. We spend the night in a small hut on a hill behind the settlement, where we have a 360 degree view of the whole fjord and the icecap in all its glory. You might see the breathtaking northern lights on a clear night.

Day 5:  Tiniteqilaaq - Imiilaa Fjord
Today will be the hardest day of the trip. You will go up a glacier and now and then you will have to get off the sledge to help the dogs get up the steep hills. But, your hard work will be rewarded with the amazing landscape, the glacier, the mountains and the valleys. Your next stop will be a hut which lies at the Imiilaa Fjord, where the locals go hunting and fishing for seal, halibut, redfish and sea cat.

Day 6: Imiilaa Fjord - Tasiilaq
Today we will go up a 700 m glacier and down hill all the way to Langes. The whole way you can enjoy the beautiful icy landscape of Ammassalik and now and then you get a great view of the icepack and Tasiilaq. When you arrive in Tasiilaq you will be picked up by car and brought to the house. You have the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening dinner will be served for the whole group.

Day 7: Day at leisure in Tasiilaq
You have today at leisure. You could take a walk through town and visit the museum. Or just relax after the adventurous trip and even have a hot stone massage.

Day 8: Tasiilaq - Kulusuk
Today the helicopter takes you back to Kulusuk.
